Στο κτίσιμο του καθεδρικού ναού του Αγίου Γεωργίου αναφέρθηκε με αρκετή λεπτομέρεια ο αείμνηστος Γενικός Βικάριος Χωρεπίσκοπος Ιωάννης Φοραδάρης στο άρθρο του «Ο Καθεδρικός Ναός και οι άλλες Εκκλησίες του Κορμακίτη», που δημοσιεύθηκε στην εφημερίδα Φιλελεύθερος στις 24 Απριλίου 1991. Παραθέτουμε αυτούσιο το κείμενο.

«Μια σημαντική εξέλιξη σχετικά με τις εκκλησίες του χωριού Κορμακίτη σημειώνεται κατά το έτος 1534. Ιδού τι γράφει ο ιστορικός Ντουάηχη στο βιβλίο του «Ιστορία των Καιρών» στη σελίδα 205. «Κατά το 1534 εννέα εχθρικά πλοία αφίχθηκαν στην Κύπρο από το δυτικό μέρος και απεβίβασαν στη νήσο 500 στρατιώτες, οι οποίοι επιτέθηκαν κατά του Μαρωνίτικου χωριού Κορμακίτη, λεηλάτησαν τις εκκλησίες του, έρριψαν κατά γης τα άγια μύρα και τα άγια μυστήρια και κατέκαυσαν τα σπίτια του χωριού».

This article addresses the reasons behind the Maronite migration to Cyprus from the eighth century to the British occupation, and reads into their history from available manuscripts. History narrates four major migrations of the Maronites to the Cypriot Island. The first exodus occurred in the eighth century with the fleeing of the Maronites from the plains of ancient Syria to Mount Lebanon. The second transpired upon the destruction of the Monastery of Saint Maron on the Orontes River toward the end of the tenth century. The third migration came at the beginning of the reign of the Lusignan Dynasty at the end of the twelfth century. The fourth transmigration was engendered by the defeat of the Crusaders in Tripoli toward the end of the thirteenth century.
